Lt. Ray McCormack Ret. FDNY

Ray McCormack retired as a lieutenant after 39 years in the Fire Department of New York. He was the lead author for FDNY’s Engine Company Operations Manual and developed and taught Back to Basics Standpipe for all FDNY firefighters. He was the cofounder and editor of Urban Firefighter magazine. He was the 2009 FDIC keynote speaker. He has a B.A. degree from the New York Institute of Technology. He is a member of the FDIC advisory board and Fire Engineering editorial board. He was a panel member for the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) studies “Impact of Fire Attack Utilizing Interior & Exterior Streams on Firefighter Safety” and “Occupant Survival Study and Study of Coordinated Fire Attack Utilizing Acquired Structures.”

Class: "The Three C's of Modern Fire Streams"

-- This course sets a standard for formulating your fire attack approach. It covers why it is crucial to be cognizant of the potential expansion of the fire area and its impact on conditions throughout a structure by ineffective Engine Company work. Students will learn to apply the specific characteristics of fire dynamics and the application of water to be effective on the fireground.


Capt. Ron Smith Gary FD

Ron Smith is a 30 year veteran of the fire service, having served the last 22 years with the Gary, IN Fire Department; he is a Captain currently assigned to Squad 4. Ron has worked for volunteer, combination, and career departments and is an instructor for the Indiana Firefighter Training System and instructs at schools and conferences around the U.S., including Firehouse Expo and the FDIC in Indianapolis. Capt. Smith is currently serving on the UL/FSRI advisory panel for the “Size-Up and Search & Rescue” project.

Class: "Intake and Exhaust: The Ins and Outs of Ventilation"

-- This course covers how vertical vs. horizontal ventilation can impact your fire scenes. Based on street experience and proven scientific research, students will cover the principles of initial companies on their priorities regarding Truck Company work.


Lt. Dave Quick Manchester, NH

Dave Quick is a fifth generation firefighter who is now a Lt. with Engine 11 of Manchester, NH Fire. He joined the fire service in 1996 as a junior firefighter in NY. At his current department, he is the lead instructor for the Recruit Program and specializes in Engine Co. Operations. He co-authored the department's High Rise SOP and is currently the lead for the department's Nozzle and Appliance Evaluation Committee. David is a Technical Committee Member (representing the User category) of NFPA 1961, Standard on Fire Hose, and also sits on the UL-19/219 Technical Committee, Standard for Lined Fire Hose and Hose Assemblies. He was a member of the NFPA Research Foundation’s Operational Environment Study Task Force. David is a Pro-Board Certified Instructor II/III and a Senior Staff Instructor at the New Hampshire Fire Academy. He owns 603 Fire Service Consulting & Training, LLC. He was recently selected as 1/28 out of 600 applicants to sit on the FSRI's technical panel for the Fire Dynamics and Firefighting Tactics in Multi-Story Residential Structure research project.
