The People's Handline: Creating a Culture of Winning James Nisbet, Clackamas Fire (OR)

The engine company exists for one simple fundamental purpose, extinguishing fire in order to aggressively occupy the interior for search!

The Mission is pure and the Mission is simple. So how do we ensure we are giving the PEOPLE their best chance for survival when our engine company goes to work? From mindset to the fire house, we will evaluate core principles that make a winning handline! A Mission and mindset backed by science and experience. We will use that data and experience to develop and deliver the ethos of the engine company when no one else is coming and it’s up to us!

They call on us to WIN, let's uphold our end of the expectation.

(Morning Segment 1)

Firefighter Rescue Survey: Taking It To The Streets Jeff Bryant, Aurora Fire (IL)

We'll take a deep dive into the "First 4,000" rescues recored by the Firefighter Rescue Survey and see how we can apply that data to the streets. This includes mindset, size up, search ops, rescue ops, prevention & EMS, training scars, fear, & more! Lets use our metrics to build our mindset and complete our mission of saving lives.

(Morning Segment 2)

Making the Grab, Not Excuses Cody Trestrail, Brothers in Battle

Performing searches should not be an after thought. It should be guarded as our highest mission on the fireground. Our oath is what makes us different, it separates us from the average citizen, it’s why we have the utmost trust from all of humanity, from generation to generation, it’s sacred and it must be kept above all things and at all cost. Without their trust we have no THEM to serve, we have NO Identity!

We will take a deep dive into hard hitting truths that leave no room for excuses as we explore our mission and why we go inside!

It’s about THEM, it always has been. The Mission: THEM, Me.

(Afternoon Segment)

DIY Engine Brothers in Battle

First due, short crew, and the fire’s already working. This class is built for those moments—when it’s just you and a couple others pulling up with fire showing and backup’s still miles out. We’ll focus on the no-BS, street-proven skills to get the job done: masking up fast, forcing doors under pressure, stretching and pushing hose with just 1-2 firefighters, figuring out your next move when the water goes dry, searching tight spaces with or without the line, and dragging victims out when seconds count. Every scenario is grounded in chaos—because the fireground won’t wait. You’ll train to think on your feet, communicate clearly, and adapt when the plan goes sideways.

This is for the crews who show up first and make it happen—short-staffed, under pressure, and all in.
