This year’s event is bigger, more dynamic, and more hands-on than ever before! For the first time, we’re expanding the symposium into a three-day training experience designed to provide attendees with valuable classroom instruction and real-world, hands-on training opportunities.
Join us for a full day of engaging lectures by Sean Duffy and OJ Kolodziej on October 22 followed by correlating 8-hour HOT experiences on October 23. There will also be a standalone 4-hour HOT experience with Junction City F.O.O.L.S. and Hen Nozzles on October 24!
In this lecture, we will cover statistics and share videos to drive home points of why and when we search, as well as the importance of the search size-up. Topics covered include:
- Importance of sizing up your search
- Searchable spaces
- Isolation and Communication
- How bias and terminology affect our actions
- Search Mechanics and Methodology
This course focuses on increasing the odds of locating and removing victims efficiently, covering data from UL, USFA, and the Firefighter Rescue Survey. Participants should leave with practical knowledge to function more efficiently during residential structure fires.
In this lecture, we will cover advanced ladder techniques beyond standard carries and throws, including spliced ladders, scaled walls, and extended buckets.
This class focuses on our primary mission—life. Given the modern fire environment, we will emphasize quick decision-making, sizing up the search during a 360, and using staffing wisely to occupy spaces where victims are most likely to be found. The goal is to be intelligently aggressive and prioritize methods that enhance survivability for unprotected occupants.
*10/22 lecture required for participation in this HOT class.
Many of us live in a world of what we believe to be standard ground ladders. In this reality, we just carry, throw, and extend ladders. But there is another world where ladders are spliced, walls are scaled, and buckets are extended. This is the Dark Side of Ladders —are you ready?
In this four-hour HOT students will be given the skills to evaluate modern fire attack packages. Topics will include determining target flows, pairing the right hose and nozzle, validating GPM flows and designing an attack package that works for your department.
